When it comes to having a baby, there can be a lot on a new moms plate. I mean, the weeks and even days leading up to the big day, we find that we are checking those lists over and over again, ensuring we have everything in the home ready for baby. We also have the final prenatal visits with our doctors as they prepare us for delivery. And in the midst of all of the running around, while we are doing everything we need to like learning how to install a car seat, washing baby’s clothes and blankets and cleaning every nook and cranny over and over again, we might not always think about what we might need to pack in the hospital bag when it is go time. So as a mom who has been there and done that a time or two, I find that when it comes down to some of the details that might get overlooked, that having a go-to list can be very helpful, and I have learned that stocking up on TUCKS Medicated Cooling Pads is also a must.
See like many, I learned after my first baby that I was not prepared. I had everything I needed for my baby but not nearly everything I needed for myself for both necessity and comfort.
Why pack TUCKS Medicated Cooling Pads?
After having kids and learning a few things from my experiences with pregnancy and post-natal care, I have found that having TUCKS Medicated Cooling Pads on hand is a must. TUCKS can help to reduce the swelling and pain we might feel on our bottoms during and after pregnancy that is caused by the strain and pressure put on our bodies. The pads are made to give you relief with a gentle, safe formula that contains witch hazel to soothe and protect, while the soft pads are ideal for use on sensitive, inflamed areas. The choice to stock up on TUCKS Medicated Cooling Pads, while you prepare for the final stages of your pregnancy and delivery, is a choice that you will come to really appreciate as you settle into motherhood!
So as you go to prepare for the hospital, be sure to focus on your baby bag but focus on packing your bags properly as well.
Items to consider while packing the hospital bag:
- -Toiletries: For the shower for both yourself and your spouse or partner
- -Hairbrush: Because you will need to fix up a time or two and you might also consider packing some basic hair styling products for when company comes to visit you in the hospital.
- -Makeup: Because when company comes they will want to take photos, lots of them and share them, so I have learned it is best to be prepared for that even though makeup might be the last thing on your mind.
- -Comfortable Night Gown or Gowns: To wear after giving birth since you are going to want to walk around. There are very trendy hospital gowns out there that are comfortable and flattering, so that is also something to keep in mind.
- -Robe: Because after giving birth I have not only experienced it but just about everyone I have talked to has said the same thing, you get cold after having a baby and you may even get the chills. So having a robe to wear that is comfortable can help you as your body starts to regulate your temp since you just lost ten or more pounds after a marathon of being pregnant and being in labor.
- -House Slippers: You will want something comfortable for your feet after having the baby. Your feet might also swell after which can be a little uncomfortable, so a comfortable pair of slippers is ideal as you walk around.
- -Underwear: Bring a few pairs you will need them!! The hospital might provide some throwaway underpants but you might want something a little more comfortable and having some stretchy cotton underwear in your bag can make a huge difference.
- -Going Home Outfit for Mom: Pack something comfortable, like lounge pants and a loose fitting shirt. Most likely you will go from the hospital to the car then from the car to your bed at home, so you do not want to get dressed up, and comfort is a must for new moms!
- -Pads: You will want to pack quite a few as well as have plenty stocked up at home, and get the max flow ones. The hospital might provide some but the ones they have might not be that comfortable to wear, and after having a baby you are not going to want to go to the store to pick up some on your way home.
- -Book or eReader: These are extras but hospitals can be boring, in between contractions and after having the baby as you wait to be released, having something to read can help pass the time.
- -Headphones: They will come in handy during contractions when you listen to music that just soothes you, and while trying to relax to drown out the noises in the hospital so you can rest.
- -Neck Pillow: I found this was a big help for me during my last delivery. While in labor you get tense and uncomfortable so having a neck pillow can help to provide you with some comfort in between contractions and while you rest.
- -Charger: You might want a couple on hand because most likely you and your partner will be making phone calls to update others. Taking photos, listening to music, playing games and whatever else, and most hospitals do not have chargers for patients to use so bring your own.
- –TUCKS Medicated Cooling Wipes: These were a huge must for me with all of my pregnancies towards the end to help with discomfort and a must have for post-natal care as well to help with the burning and pain we can feel on our bottom areas after delivery.
I never even thought about putting Tucks in my hospital bag! I was worried about pooping in the middle of labor! Heard too many horror stories. lol. It turns out, I never progressed very far and had to have c-sections for both deliveries.
I've never tried these but I have heard good things about them before! It's a good "labor bag" idea–I wouldn't have thought about it either!
We have packed hospital ready bags for at least 5 years. Always bring moist towlettes.
