Holiday Guide: Making Memories that Last with The Wreath Works

The holiday season is upon us and like many that means it is a time that we enjoy spending together, decorating, seeking out the gifts, listening to our favorite holiday music and watch those holiday family movies! Along with some of those traditions that my family enjoy taking part in every year, we also have a tradition of finding, cutting and setting up our holiday tree. We found a few years ago, that by heading to our local tree farm to seek and cut our tree as a family, is not only a lot of fun for everyone but it also gives us memories that last. So when we were invited out to our local tree farm, The Wreath Works, this season to not only pick out that perfect tree to put up this year but also learn more about some of what we can do to care for our tree, we were excited to get started!

See The Wreath Works is a place that is all about family and traditions, where you have a family run tree farm that is filled with not just those trees we put up every year, but the decorations such as the wreaths that can be shipped around the country as well. The location itself has been a part of the family that runs the farm for generations, where it had originated as a turkey farm and in the 1980’s was transformed into the beautiful Christmas Tree oasis that is seen today. The Wreath Works is open daily during the holiday season for the public to come and see, where families gather to create new traditions, continue with old ones and make memories that they can look back on for years to come. And when you arrive, you right away feel welcomed and at home by the staff who can point you in the right direction when it comes to the tree you are seeking and also provide you and your family with a cart to carry your tree back on along with a saw to use to cut down that tree.

For my family and I, when we created the tradition that we intend to continue for years to come, just a few years ago, we made the process one that everyone can participate in. Where we enjoy heading out a few days prior to cutting our tree to walk through the acres of the farm, to find that perfect tree that we all agree upon and tag it. From there, after we have found the place in our home where we will set up our tree, we like to head out to the farm, to go out and find that tree we tagged as a family, and cut down our tree. The kids also like this part of the process, where they can assist by taking turns using the saw with dad, to get through the trunk of the tree.

Once the tree has been cut and we make our way back to the store front of the farm, the staff then helps to insure that your tree is ready to take home and set up by shaking any access needles out and cutting the trunk to ensure it has as even cut for setting up.

From there we were able to watch as we had our tree flocked, which not only offers a beautiful snow like covering to the tree that gives it a magical effect, but also helps to provide a fire retardant to the tree itself and makes it so that the tree can last longer than a average cut tree. While watching the flocking process, we learned a little about what flocking is, what it does for the tree, and that the material used to flock the trees is fairly simple, and starts with wood shavings.

Then before leaving the tree farm, the kids and I enjoy warming up inside the store with some hot cocoa or apple cider as we pick out new ornaments to add to our collection! We also like that while in the store, we can watch as the wreaths are made, pick out a few to hang up this season and even order a few to have shipped to friends and family around the country. Which in all, has made the choice to add The Wreath Works to our holiday traditions, not only one that allows us to pick out and even customize our tree each year, but one that makes those memories that we can look back on year after year that last a lifetime!
