Recently I was introduced to a treatment that is prescribed by doctors called Mirvaso® (brimonidine) Topical Gel, 0.33%*, for helping to treat the facial redness of rosacea. I was given the chance to share my own story along with the information for treatment through a sponsored campaign. Below is my own personal story on rosacea along with a great treatment that can be given to those suffering from rosacea facial redness by a doctor who prescribes the treatment.

When I was a teen, I had thought that I was lucky. I thought this because unlike my peers, I did not have any issues with acne. I was able to go through puberty and my teenage years with clear skin, not having to worry about any treatments or the embarrassing breakouts that many of my friends dealt with. I was always supportive, but did not realize how they felt inside or how embarrassed they might have been about something they had no control over. That was until I hit my twenties. It seemed shortly after turning twenty, my complexion began to change. For the first time I had issues with a skin condition on my face that somewhat resembled acne, but it was not like what others growing up had. In fact it was a lot different. It was what was diagnosed as a form of rosacea.

With the rosacea, I began to get a lot of redness that had bumps on my cheeks, around my nose, and the sides of my face and neck. The bumps were little red bumps that looked like tiny

pimples, but covered areas of my face in patches. I found the issue to be quite embarrassing, and as I got older, had babies, I found that it seemed to get worse. I say worse because when I first started showing signs, the flare ups would come and go, and I had used makeup to cover up the redness, thinking that I could hide it. But once I hit my 30’s, the more I tried to hide it, the worse the breakouts seemed to get, and now, the redness seems to have become a regular part of my face, with patches on my cheeks, neck, nose, and forehead.

Making me one of the 16 million Americans with rosacea. And I have learned that rosacea is a chronic inflammatory and vascular skin condition. It causes facial redness, which is an extremely common and frustrating symptom, affecting up to 93% of rosacea sufferers. Leaving me feeling very self-conscious and embarrassed to be seen when I have days with the redness covering the majority of my face, and even leaving my eyes red and irritated.

So when I heard about Mirvaso® Gel, I was excited to learn more about it. It is the first and only FDA approved prescription medication for the topical treatment of the persistent facial redness of rosacea. Also, it is powerful–Mirvaso® Gel is a once daily treatment that works fast to help reduce facial redness of rosacea that may last up to 12 hours! When applied it may start working in as little as 30 minutes, which can help with combating the redness that comes along with rosacea. When my redness is reduced it helps with making going out in public, taking family pictures – something I will not feel embarrassed to do or avoid all together.

So if you or someone you know suffers from the facial redness that can come with rosacea, be sure to check out Mirvaso® Gel, and talk to your doctor to see if it is right for you!
