eChook Digital Publishing Giveaway Closed!!

Tessa Smith McGovern is writer and founder of eChook Digital Publishing’s short story apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Kindle.

Tessa was a busy Mom, carpooling the kids, getting lunches packed, making playdates. She loved her family, she loved her children, she loved being a Mom but . . .She wanted to do something with her creativity and began writing wonderful short stories, many based in England , where she lived as a child. The stories gave her a quick, structured, escape from the busy, hectic, demanding life as a Mother. Soon she had a series of stories, with wonderful characters women could relate to – in settings away from her dirty dishes, laundry and runny noses.

Tessa wanted to share her writing with other women needing a quick, 10 minutes break.

She saw a trend in how publishing and technology are colliding with the popularity of iPhones, iPads, Androids, and Kindles.

Tessa founded eChook Digital Publishing’s short story apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Kindle. She designed an App and created a world for other people to read her short story collection: LONDON ROAD. Then she noticed everyone is posting their business and information on Facebook and other social media –– biographies. She asked writer friends to help create 10 minute Memoirs – which they did and that created eChook’s next app, Memoir Volume 1 which was just released.Realizing she could not be the only Mommy out there with little time but inspired to write – she now has an on-going call for submissions: for published or unpublished fiction, memoir, or essays between 750- to 2,000-words. Cash prizes up to $550 – here’s the link with all the details  http://echook.com/category/blog/submissions/

That’s not all, knowing how much busy Moms need comfort, Tessa created an eChook swag bag filled with items to help readers relax as they enjoy their reading. These bags are available to you as giveaways and/or visuals. The goodies, as seen at the Sundance Film Festival, include an eChook chapstick, an eChook mug, eChook mouse pad and treats . . .

Below are two releases.

1) eChook Short Story App

2) The just released eChook Memoir App.

A 10-MINUTE ESCAPE IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND?
WE HAVE AN APP FOR THAT!
                                          Let eChook take you away

The best of two worlds have merged to bring the overworked and under-rested 10-minutes of transcendent bliss. Award-winning short story writer Tessa Smith McGovern has wedded the restorative nature of getting lost in a story to the immediacy of modern technology to bring readers eChook. More than brain candy, eChook offers apps full of well-written short stories that soothe the soul like 10-minutes of literary gourmet chocolate.

Taking from the idea of the chapbook — small, single-chapter books that were the latest technology in 16th-century England — McGovern developed eChook, an app that turned her linked short stories into digital chapbooks. She wanted to reimagine the short story genre for a generation that does too much and rests too little. “Life-affirming, thoughtful stories can help us relax so we can attend that next meeting, collect the kids or greet our families with more energy and joy,” McGovern says.

There are several ways to enjoy eChook. Readers can buy full-color chapbooks from the app store in almost a dozen ways: on their iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, fromwww.eChook.com or iTunes, and coming soon on Kindle or Nook. Choices include collections of short stories linked by a single theme (such as Memoir) or collections of linked short stories that follow engaging characters through different adventures. Each app features information pages with enriched content such as “About the Author,” and “Memoir and Fiction.”eChook offers short stories that are light in your pocket and on your pocket book.

I look forward to speaking with you about the biggest little thing in publishing and escaping to a relaxing world in the palm of your hand.

FROM FACEBOOK UPDATES TO 10-MINUTE MEMOIRS

eChook gives personal storytelling a facelift with Memoirs, Vol. 1

Rapid changes in reading technology have transformed writing through social media. The move from e-mail to blogs to Facebook has been ever evolving, but one thing has remained constant – the need to tell our personal stories. The 70-million active bloggers, tweeters, texters and Facebook addicts who journal daily about their lives are poised to discover the next step in their evolution – the Memoir, Vol. 1 app from eChook, curated by award-winning, short story author Tessa Smith McGovern.

Taking the idea of the original chapbook – small, single-chapter books that were the latest technology in 16th-century England – Tessa Smith McGovern developed eChook Digital, a digital publisher that offers collections of linked short stories as digital chapbooks in apps and eBooks. She wanted to re-imagine the short story genre for a generation that does too much and rests too little. “Reading thoughtful stories makes us forgets our lives and helps us relax so we can attend that next meeting, collect the kids or greet our families with more energy and joy,” McGovern says.

McGovern’s latest collection for eChook is a mini-anthology that is like a tasting menu of autobiographical delights. Included in the collection is a mischievous tale of a girl who shouldn’t play with matches, a mother and daughter who settle their differences with a prom dress and a kugel, a one-night stand that takes an unexpected turn, the unforeseen powers of a crossword puzzle, a wayward father’s alternate reality, and two tales about those mysterious creatures known as writers.

The short stories in Memoir, Vol. 1 range from new discoveries to pieces by acclaimed writers. Among the popular authors featured, are:

·         Ina Chadwick – Her work has appeared in many literary journals, including The Paris Review and The Antioch Review, and The New York Times. She holds several first place awards in editing from the New England Press Association from her years as a professional journalist.

·         Jennifer Armstrong – The winner of numerous awards for fiction and nonfiction, and the author of more than 100 books for all ages. She is a senior writer for Entertainment Weekly.

·         Eileen Elkinson – A prolific short-story writer and editor of the literary site Mezzozine.

eChook currently has three open calls for submission for published or unpublished fiction, memoir, or essays between 750- to 2,000-words. Cash prizes up to $550. For more information, visit http://eChook.com/submissions.  “I believe that everybody has a short story in them,” McGovern says.
