The start of the 10th season follows on the heels of exceptional research results from a study which found that when preschool children were exposed to a Between the Lions curriculum (which included trained teachers and provided materials):
- They could identify 75% more upper-case letters than students who did participate.
- They scored nearly 113% higher in lower-case letter identification than their non-participating classmates.
- They were able to identify 20% more objects, which is an index of vocabulary knowledge, than those that did not participate.
With support from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Between the Lions Reading Dens are beginning to pop-up in public and school libraries across the country. The Dens will be reading nooks where children can watch Between the Lions, read the storybooks that appear in the episodes, and engage in curriculum-relevant literacy games and activities. How fun is that?!
