With
the holidays come and gone, a lot of us are trying hard to save money
so we can pay our recent holiday bills. Now for me, that doesn’t
mean that I have to stop enjoying things, it just means that I need
to be a savvy consumer when the New Year gets rolling and new
activities arise.
One
thing that my husband and I enjoy is our date nights. We look forward
to these, and even though we have cut back on expenses so we can get
over that holiday hump, we still take advantage of a night out now
and then. Instead of going to a bar or dance hall and spending way
too much on drinks, we instead enjoy a very nice night out going to
dinner and a movie. With several big movies up for awards showing in
theaters, my husband and I look forward to this time of year when we
can get out and enjoy a movie together! To ensure we save some money
on our date, I like to research the restaurant, join their mailing
list and Facebook page, as well as join the VIP club at our local
movie theater. That way, I can get their deals or coupons and know
when they will be running specials! I also enjoy taking full
advantage of sites like Groupon, where I can get a great dinner and a
movie deal and not have to worry about overspending.
Another
way I try to save is by earning cash rewards with a credit card. One
way I do this is by taking advantage of Discover’s rewards
program, like the 5%
Cashback Bonus
program.
Now through March 31, Discover cardmembers can sign up to earn 5%
Cashback Bonus on up to $1,500 in restaurant and movie purchases.
Knowing that I can get up to $75 back just by using my Discover card
when my husband and I are out makes the date even more exciting! I
can also turn my rewards into extra cash by redeeming my Cashback
Bonus rewards for gift cards to several of our favorite restaurants
like Outback Steakhouse and Red Lobster. You can also redeem your
Cashback Bonus for gift cards to movie theaters, including AMC!
Another
big perk of being a Discover cardmember is the current Valentine’s
Day promotion through ShopDiscover.com,
the company’s exclusive online shopping portal featuring more than
200 popular online retailers. Now through February 14, more than 20
retailers have increased Cashback Bonus amounts just in time for the
holiday. We can save on sites like Fandango (10% Cashback Bonus) and
Restaurant.com (20% Cashback Bonus), so my husband and I can really
enjoy our night out!
So
this New Year, make smart choices when it comes to your spending
habits and take advantage of all the perks you can get from being a
Discover cardmember. To help you pay for your next date night, I will
be giving one of my amazing readers a $50 Discover gift card to use
on their next night out! Comment below and tell me what perk you
like best about being a Discover cardmember!
This
giveaway is open to U.S. residents over 18 years of age. I will
use a random generator through the giveaway form for a winner.

I like the 5% cash back categories. Sometimes they aren't good for long, but sometimes they have a 5% offer good for 3 months. They had 5% off at all gas stations a year or so ago that lasted for 3 months. I sure saved a lot of money with that deal!
The cash back bonuses are nice if you use a credit card.

My favorite memory is the first Valentine's Day I spent with my now hubby back when we were first dating.
When me and my husband were dating we once went to a nearby city to see a movie and have coffee. We started out at the coffee shop…we were in his PT Cruiser and suddenly out of the back truck area…my sister popped out and scared the heck out of us. It turned into a date night with a crazy third wheel but it was the most fun!!! She is older then me…she was nearly 30 when she did this…she just has a strange sense of humor.
One time I gave my wife a GC to Crate & Barrel for $214.xx, whatever the year was.
