For most of us, it is that time of the year when we sadly say our goodbyes to the summer wardrobe and get re-acquainted with our warmer clothes. The chillier temperatures bring along with them changing leaf colors and shorter days and, as parents of younger kids know too well, the start of the flu and cold season. Runny noses, warm foreheads, and cranky dispositions are all too common during the winter months and it is best to be prepared well in advance for such an eventuality. That is where an accurate and reliable thermometer comes in very handy, and there are few, if any, retail thermometers more accurate than the Exergen Smart Glow Temporal Scanner.
We recently had the opportunity to get our hands on this wonderful thermometer and came away impressed with its ease of use and accuracy. Though, to be fair, you shouldn’t be just taking our word for the Exerrgen Temporal Scanner’s accuracy (a sample size of one isn’t very reliable in most cases). Instead, you should be going by the more than 70 published clinical studies that Exergen references in their marketing info and on their website. We all know how accurate temperature readings can be critical in deciding whether to call the doctor or not, or whether to keep the child out of the school. Traditional thermometers that go under the tongue or under the armpit can be notoriously difficult to manage with a squirmy sick child or one that is in an unsettled sleep. The Exergen Temporal Scanner requires a simple swipe across the forehead to take the temperature and hence has a minimal chance of disrupting a sleeping child. We do recommend reading the use instructions carefully and to check out a few videos on the proper use of this thermometer as this would be something new for many and would take a little getting used to.
In addition to the ease of taking accurate measurements, the Exergen Temporal Scanner comes with four additional benefits:
- A softly illuminated display for easy reading in any light – perfect for checking the temperature of a sleeping infant in a darkened room
- Beeping sound indicating scanning can be turned off or on to avoid waking a sleeping child
- Automatically retains the last eight temperature readings for instant recall to check on fever progression
- Ability to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius modes
Made in the United States, the Exergen Smart Glow TemporalScanner™ is claimed to be the number one preferred thermometer by both nurses and pediatricians, and is the home version of the professional model used in thousands of hospitals and doctor’s office. It can be easily found in major retailers including Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Costco, Babies “R” Us, Toys “R” Us, Kroger and BJ’s.
