JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI
On March 11th at 2:46 p.m., Japan experienced its largest earthquake in over 140 years. Soon after, a massive 10 meter high tsunami slammed onto Japan’s coast, causing immeasurable human suffering and physical damage. Current OFFICIAL figures are that 8,450 people died and that over 12,909 are missing.
RELIEF RUN DETAILS:
2 MILE RUN
Runners are asked to pay a minimum entrance fee of $10 which will go entirely to the American Red Cross’s Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.
Runners will assemble on Santa Monica Beach @ Beach Parking Lot #1 where Ocean Avenue meets 2600 Barnard Way at 10:00 a.m. There they will register for the run and pay the $10 minimum entrance fee. This fee will go entirely to the American Red Cross’s Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund. All ages will be able to participate in the run!
Participants will run on the beach, north to the Santa Monica Pier where they will turn around and head back to the starting point at the 2600 Barnard Way beach lot.
Children under 16 entering the run are asked to bring a parent along.
All monies collected for the run will go to the American Red Cross’s Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund. Checks and money orders should be made out to American Red Cross – Japan Relief. Cash donations will also be accepted.
In January of 2010 we raised over $100,000 for the victims of Haiti…Well, we are about to do the same for Japan…only better!
