I know that with each of my kids, when I was pregnant with them, I would read to them. Then once they were born they were not only really familiar with my voice, but it seemed that when I would read to them, they would pay attention to me reading. Once they got a little bigger, I would get the soft books that they could hold and look at. I know that they loved their first books. They loved to look at the pictures and for me to read what was on each page. I think that reading to your babies from the very beginning then giving them the soft books to start with then the cardboard books, is a great way to interact with your baby and help with shaping their language, imagination, and social skills. I love seeing the reactions of my kids faces when I do different characters in stories. I love being able to talk to my kids after reading and asking them about what they think about the stories we read. With babies they still have a reaction and they also watch the expressions in our faces when we interact with them. Reading really helps them relate to and build an understanding of these reactions.
