Keeping Your Family Safe This Cold and Flu Season

Its that time of year again. The time when those nasty colds and flu become rampant. If you have kids in school it is even worse. I know that with Robert we had to keep everything very clean. If someone was to blow their nose, I would insist they use some hand sanitizer before touching anything. I used cleaning wipes constantly through out the day. I would wipe the counters, table, bathroom sink, doorknobs and my kids toys. I did this to minimize the possibility of any germs and bacteria getting into Roberts fragile system. I taught my daughter the importance of using hand sanitizers after using the restroom, after blowing her nose and after playing. I think that some of our friends thought that I was a little too obsessed with the cleaning and sanitizing, but what some did not understand was that the slightest germ or virus could turn into a more serious condition for my son. We spent way too much time in hospitals and doctors offices. I know that when Robert had picked up the flu, he ended up in the Pediatric ICU for a little over a week. We had been following the sanitizing routines and we were scheduled for flu-shots the same week he became ill. I know that as a parent we want to keep our kids as safe and as healthy as possible and I know that there are solutions out there that can be very helpful. After the first flu experience I set it up with our doctor that we would be on the top of the list when they got flu shots every year, so we could try to avoid a repeat. I know that getting the flu shot every year can be very crucial, but you have to get it sooner than later. The following year after my son had been hospitalized with the flu, my daughter got the Swine flu. She had gotten it in October and as soon as she got it I called the doctor to find when we would be able to get flu shots for the rest of the family. I was informed that they did not have any available at the time and they would notify us as soon as they got more in the office. So, in order for us to avoid Robert getting infected, we kept him away from her room and we tried to keep every thing in the house as sterile as possible. I stocked up on cleaning wipes and hand sanitizer. I went through and put all of my kids toys in a bleach bath. I took all of the linens in the house and washed them a couple of times in a hot washing cycle. I think my efforts were successful, because everyone else in the house were able to avoid getting the flu. I was very relieved to have been able to avoid Robert getting it as well! I think that having the sanitizing products like cleaning wipes and hand sanitizer in your home does help avoid those nasty yearly bugs like the cold and flu, and I also think that getting the flu shot every year can be very helpful as well! Even though we cant follow our kids at school, teaching them good healthy sanitizing habits can be beneficial! So this year, stock up on the sanitizing products and make sure you and your family get your flu shots so that you can avoid any unwanted and sometimes fatal viruses!!!
