Must Haves In Safety, Comfort And Entertainment

I know that when traveling with my family, I have to have a checklist and I have to make sure that everything is checked off of the list in order to have a safe trip. When it comes to safety, my husband goes over the vehicles fluid levels and tire pressures. He will usually take our vehicle in to be serviced a day or so before we go on a trip. Then to make sure everything is good to go, he will double check everything before we leave. Another thing that my husband and I will do before leaving on a trip is pack lots of water. With a family you have to be prepared for anything. You never know. Even when you have checked your fluids and tire pressures before leaving, things can happen, and when you are stuck on the side of the road with kids, you need to make sure everyone stays hydrated until help arrives. We also pack snacks for the road as well, just in case, and snacks also come in handy for those times when you are not wanting to stop for food, when you hear “I’m hungry”. Another thing that we do, for those just in case moments, is carry extra cash on hand. It never fails, every time I have ever had car troubles, I have broken down outside of a small town, and not all small town mechanics take credit cards! When it comes to traveling comfortably, we try to make sure that everyone in the vehicle is comfortable, especially for those long trips. We let our kids get their favorite blankets, and travel pillows. We also have some of those neck pillows that make for a very comfortable trip! Then there is the entertainment, you have to have some sort of entertainment when traveling with kids in order to have a safe and somewhat stress free trip. We usually allow our kids to pick out some toys, travel games, movies, and coloring books to take along on long trips. We also like to have music players so our kids can each listen to their own music. When it comes to watching movies, we have separate head phones so the kids can watch their movies and we can concentrate on the road. We like to have it where our kids have their own space when traveling, so they can put their toys and items in their own space and so the arguing is limited. I know that when we are traveling with babies, there are more items that are needed on a checklist, and if you are traveling with a baby, consider packing extra diapers, wipes, baby food, formula, sterile water and a portable bottle warmer. If you are breast feeding, then pack some extra milk in a cooler, just in case it is needed. In all, take everyone that will be traveling into consideration. You want to make everyone as comfortable and as safe as you can while traveling, and making a checklist ahead of time is the best way to make sure you dont forget anything.

This was not a paid post and honest/original opinions were used and they are my own. I wrote this post for a contest through the Chrysler Group.

I wouldn't survive if I didn't make a check list before going on a trip. Even with a check list I still forget something, but I couldn't imagine all that I would forget if I wasn't checking it off as I packed! Great tips and ideas!
