When you have decided on
your colour scheme and put up your wall friezes, it’s time to pick
the furniture. If you can, spend a bit more and look ahead to when

available that are wide enough to accommodate a plastic changing mat,
rather than buying a changing station.

The most important item
for the nursery is the cot. Buy a cot that adheres to safety
standards. For examples the slats of a cot should be close together
so that a baby can’t get his head stuck. Make sure the mattress
fits properly and that there are no gaps for baby to slip into.

New cots now have teething
rails, which means your baby isn’t biting into the wood when he
starts to want to chomp down on hard surfaces. An adjustable height
feature is also useful, so that you can drop down the height as baby
get bigger and stronger, and thinks getting out of the cot might be a

and out.
