This Christmas why not treat your family and little ones to something truly special and take a trip to the place where the festive magic resides: Lapland, to meet Santa and his reindeers?
Visiting the snowy peaks of Lapland, where Santa and his elves write up the naughty or nice list and the reindeers leave tracks in the snow, is probably pretty high on the wish list for any small child, alongside visiting Disneyland and becoming a real mermaid or pirate.
So this season why not pay a visit to an enchanting family friendly hotel in Finnish Lapland, based just 250 kilometres from the Arctic Circle? You can enjoy reindeer and husky pulled sleigh rides, skiing and snowboarding, the enchanting Northern Lights and spend the night sleeping in a glass igloo under the stars.
The Hotel Kakslauttanen offers rustic luxury and is set amongst stunning scenery, perfect for families looking for adventure and a fun packed holiday. Prices vary depending on seasons but you can book quickly and easily through a family holiday tour operator, such as Tots Too, to get the best deal.
A visit to Lapland is the ultimate family holiday and can be enjoyed by everyone. However, to take part in the special activities the resort puts on, such as the husky safari and snowmobiles, be sure to book your places before you arrive. These activities will be an additional cost on top of your booking amount.
Arrange for the kids to meet Santa in his home at Santa’s Resort, which is a ten-minute drive from the hotel. Deep in the heart of the forest in an idyllic cabin Mr Claus will be waiting for your visit – and for your little ones to place their present order! For little ones the experience will be a truly magical and memorable one, which they will cherish forever, even after they’ve told you that they no longer believe in Father Christmas when they grow up!
After their meeting with the big man himself, take the kids to the Lappish Pole tent where a Reindeer Elf will serve delicious hot drinks and gingerbread or take a look around the Smith Elf Workshop where the elves work hard to create beautiful gifts, from gold nuggets. Visits to Santa’s Resort last for two hours on Tuesdays and Fridays, with transfers at an additional cost, or you can arrange for a private visit.
A holiday at Kakslauttanen also lets you and your family get away from the mundane distractions of every day life – there are no televisions in cabins and no Internet, except for in the main building – allowing you to switch everything from the iPad to your smartphone off, so you can enjoy the silence and get back to nature.
Finally, if you’re thinking ‘but I’ve never skied before’ then plan a visit to ski school at Sariselka, to get those wobbly ski legs straight and gliding down the slopes! The instructors will have you speeding through the white stuff in no time.
So this Winter, try something new and exciting and get in the festive spirit with a visit to Lapland for the ultimate family holiday. Chase the northern lights, snuggle up with huskies and race around on snowmobiles, all on top of meeting Santa himself.
