As all moms know (and most dads too) a good car seat is worth its weight in gold (figuratively, that is). With a seemingly endless selection of car seats to choose from it may take a while to make a choice, or you could rely on us to do the heavy lifting for you and go with something like the Graco Extend2Fit Platinum. If you have a choice in mind and are on the lookout for a good deal then the Car Seat Trade-in Event at Target may just be for you. From Sept. 9 – 22, shoppers can bring any expired or unwanted car seats in to most Target stores (excluding small-format stores) for recycling and receive a 20 percent off coupon valid for the purchase of a new car seat, car seat base, travel system or stroller. As a bonus, for the first time select baby home gear such as playards, high chairs, swings, rockers and bouncers are included in the coupon!
In honor of Baby Safety Month, Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats and car seats that are expired or damaged. They offer a variety of car seat options, so whether baby has outgrown their current seat or it’s simply time for a new model, they can help.
To make sure the old car seat materials get put to good use, Target is teaming up with Waste Management to recycle items collected during the trade in. They’ll turn the car seats into new products like pallets and plastic buckets, as well as construction materials like steel beams and carpet padding. Since the program first started in April 2016, more than 306,000 car seats—equaling more than 4.6 million pounds of materials—have been recycled!
Here’s how it works:
- When you get to your local Target store, bring your used car seat to the drop-off box located near Guest Services.
- The team member there will give you a 20 percent off coupon. Guests can get one coupon per seat dropped off.
- While car seats can only be traded in at a Target store, the coupons picked up can be applied to both in-store and online purchases. The coupon is eligible through Oct. 6.
