October is here and in the month of October we find that it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We see those wearing pink in support of raising breast cancer awareness when we are out, watching our favorite players wear pink, or when we go shopping we see the pink products on the shelves which all help to remind us that in the month of October, now is a great time to set up those mammograms. As a woman I know the importance of getting those mammograms each year and with knowing that in the US, 250,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, I find that helping to raise awareness is very important to me.
I say that because in our family, we have had breast cancer touch us very closely. We lost my mother in law to breast cancer in 2009, then shortly after, my sister who was in her early 20’s at the time, found lumps in her breasts which were found to be tumorous and were removed. So when it comes to showing my support and helping to raise awareness, I find it to be not only important but a passion!
One way that I can show my support is by sharing with others, what is available to those who are going through breast cancer. Recently I was introduced to such a support tool when I was told about the Silver Linings Companion Guide, which is a condensed version of the New York Times Best Seller “The Silver Lining: A supportive and Insightful Guide to Breast Cancer” by HoIlye Jacobs. With this guide, Hollye Jacobs has partnered with Allstate to provide free Silver Lining Companion Guides to everyone impacted by breast cancer, and along with the English version of this guide, they are also launching a Spanish version as well. Because in the Hispanic and Latina community, you find that breast cancer is the most common cancer and leading cause of cancer death for women. Making the guide one that can help and reach as many women as possible, when they need it most.
So if you or someone you know is dealing with breast cancer, be sure to get your free Silver Linings: Companion Guide today, and also to help with showing their support to women everywhere the wonderful people from Allstate would like to give one of my amazing readers a great prize pack. This prize pack consists of a hard copy of the Silver Linings: Companion Guide, a tote from Saks off 5th and a Pashmina from Scarfsworld on Etsy where 5% of the proceeds are donated to breast cancer research, along with a $50 Visa Gift Card!
