If you have a friend who is heavily pregnant or who has recently given birth you are probably wondering what is appropriate gift to give her. It can be difficult to know what to buy a new mom. If you know her extremely well, she might already have given you a few hints, but if you are struggling to think of a suitable gift, here are a few ideas to help you out.
Flowers
Flowers are always a great gift for any woman – unless she is allergic of course! You really can’t go too far wrong with some lovely flowers, but always remember that a huge bouquet of flowers requires a nice vase, so it might be a lovely gesture to buy her a pretty vase to put her flowers in. Alternatively, why not order an arrangement that comes in a vase, basket or bowl? That way she won’t have to worry about anything other than where to place them.
Alternatively, buy her a bouquet of silk flowers – they don’t need any water and will look good for years.
A Candy Basket
Candy may not be the best choice for a new mom if she is concerned about losing her baby weight, but a basket of cookies or chocolate treats could go down well with a sleep deprived mom who needs to keep her energy up. Look for a cute basket with a selection of treats or make your own and tie a pretty ribbon around it.
A Fruit Basket
Fruit is healthy and great for snacking on when you don’t have time to prepare anything. A new mom will be thrilled to receive a gift basket containing fresh fruit. Tropical fruits are a good choice, but any attractive fruits will do. You could even add a bottle of wine and some cheese if you want to splash out. If in doubt, check out some top gift websites for ideas.
Luxurious Toiletries
A harassed new mom will probably be dying to have a long soak in the tub, preferably uninterrupted by any of her offspring. Luxurious toiletries always make bathing so much more pleasurable, so what better way of pampering a new mom than buying her some expensive bath scrubs, body lotions and relaxing aromatherapy bath oils?
A Slinky Nightgown
When a baby is born, most people rush out and buy a cute little outfit for the newborn, but what you should do is think about the mother instead. A new mom will really appreciate a friend who buys her a pretty night gown. Yes she is a mother now, but she is also a woman too, so make her feel feminine by gifting her with a silky nightgown.
The one gift you don’t need to buy is your time. A new mom will appreciate some of your time above all else, so instead of splashing out on an expensive gift, offer to help her out with the chores. Go and do some grocery shopping for her or take on the ironing. She will be so grateful.
These are some great ideas to remember as I have a couple of expecting friends.
I love that you add the point of not running out to buy baby a new outfit and instead thinking about mom. I so much appreciated everyone thinking about the baby when he was born but after all the yuckiness of having a baby it would have been so nice to have someone grab some cute pj bottoms or something for me to wear in the hospital to feel decent. Great thought!
