With the colder weather making its presence known, I find that I spend more time cooking at home than we do any other time of the year. I see the cooler weather to be an ideal time of year, for that good, warm, comfort food. Recently I was introduced to the new McCormick Skillet Sauces to help with cooking in the kitchen and coming up with tasty, delicious, comfort foods to make for my family.
I was able to find a variety of the sauce flavors at my local Walmart, and with that variety, I have found a variety of options that are homemade and tasty when it comes to feeding my family. One dish that I enjoy both making and serving to my family during these cooler nights is chili, but like many, I do not always have the time to cook a pot of chili from scratch, so with the McCormick Fire Roasted Garlic Chili, I was not only able to prepare and cook a fresh pot of delicious chili in about 15 minutes, but I was able to then serve the chili over some corn chips with cheese sprinkled on top for a delicious, homemade, fast and easy, frito pie!
To get started, I went to my local Walmart with a shopping list that included a package of the McCormick Fire Roasted Chili, a bag of the corn chips, 1 lb ground turkey, 1 15 oz can (drained) kidney beans, 1 14.5 oz can petite diced tomatoes (not drained), and 1 bag of shredded cheddar jack cheese. I was able to locate the McCormick Fire Roasted Chili, along with the other amazing Skillet Sauces, right in the spice isle at Walmart.
The chili was simple, once I cooked my ground meat, which you can use either ground beef or turkey, I drained the meat then added it to a pot. From there, I added the beans, tomatoes and the chili sauce, stirred it all together, brought it to a boil, then let it simmer for about 10 minutes. After the chili was done, I put about a handful of the corn chips in a bowl, spooned the chili on top, then sprinkled a pinch of the shredded cheese! Giving me enough chili to make a little more than 5 servings of the frito pie dish.
The entire meal from start to finish was not only fast and easy to put together, but with the flavors we got from the McCormick Skillet Sauces, we got those fresh and wholesome tastes that we look for and get when I cook a pot of chili. Then with the bringing the dish together as a frito pie, we found the meal to be one that is on that list of comfort foods that we enjoy eating and sharing during these colder days! So as you prepare those shopping lists for the week, be sure to head to your local Walmart, and go to the spices isle, where you can find a variety of the McCormick Skillet Sauces, to make and serve to your family!
